The DreamDay Technology Fellowship aims to empower youth in
Sierra Leone by equipping 20 young entrepreneurs with essential
digital skills. The program’s objective is to enhance their online
capabilities and establish a supportive network for collaboration and
knowledge sharing, which is considered crucial for success in today’s
competitive business landscape.
The fellowship is a sub-project of DreamDay Technology
Limited called “Youth Education and Empowerment”. It follows a structured
approach consisting of:
- A one-month
selection process.
- One
month of training, delivered both online and in-person.
- Six
months of mentorship, monitoring, and consulting.
The training targets non-profit organizations, social
enterprises, and female-owned businesses. The aim is to help them advance
their ventures by developing a strong IT infrastructure. Participants
will acquire digital skills and knowledge in areas such as communication,
accounting, social media management, cyber security, image/audio/video
customization, presentation tools, data management, and project management
tools. The program also covers marketing tools, financial tools, sales,
and research tools to give participants a competitive edge.
Upon completion, graduates will receive certificates,
making them more competitive in the job market. An alumni network will
be established to support ongoing collaboration and knowledge sharing among
program graduates. The expected impact is that these empowered young
entrepreneurs and organisations will contribute to social and economic
development in Sierra Leone. The project aims to address the gap in digital
skills among entrepreneurs in Sierra Leone, which is necessary to compete in
the global market and maximise their business potential. Statistics indicate
that in early 2023, internet penetration in Sierra Leone was at 21.2 percent,
highlighting the need for such initiatives.
By providing free support and a tailored program, the
DreamDay Technology Fellowship directly contributes to the education of these
young entrepreneurs in critical digital areas. This education empowers them to
improve their online presence and business operations, fostering innovation and
competitiveness within Sierra Leone’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. Furthermore,
the creation of a supportive network ensures that this learning and empowerment
continue beyond the formal training period.
